We flip through magazines and see supermodels and their picture perfect skin. We’re sold anti-aging products in practically every aisle. While healthy, glowing skin is something everybody wants, it’s not necessarily easy to achieve — no matter how envious we all are of staying forever young. “If you tell me, I use this cream, and I’m going to look like Gigi Hadid, then I’m going to believe you, even though I know in my brain, that is not possible,” TV host Debbie Matenopoulos told The List in an exclusive interview. “If I’m falling for it, and I work in this business, then people who don’t work in this business have no hope.”

Matenopoulos has been in the entertainment business for decades. Yet, even after working with loads of makeup artists and dermatologists, nothing has compared to some of the skincare secrets that she’s since learned her Greek relatives live by. It even inspired her own skincare line, Ikaria Beauty. “There’s so many hacks, and there’s so many things you can do,” Matenopoulos said, and she shared some of these secrets with us.

Shortly after creating her own Greek-inspired skincare line, the former host of “The View” began to realize there was a reason that expensive beauty products expire so quickly. “When they say it goes bad in three months, not necessarily,” Debbie Matenopoulos explained to The List. “If you kept it in the refrigerator.” It seems to be a secret that major skincare brands don’t want to share considering it would keep us from buying more and more.

Another big lesson she’s learned to keep your cream long-lasting is to use a tool to help apply it to your face. “You always want to use, like, a little spoon or something, especially when it’s natural,” Matenopoulos said. This helps keep oils, germs, and anything else on your hands from falling into your product. After all, you don’t want to keep applying that same dirt and grime to your skin.
